The difference between a movie fan and a film buff

There's an easy way to tell. Movie fans will say that they like certain flicks, will say, "oh, I remember that one!" at parties and such, and leave it at that. Film buffs can answer technical and difficult questions about movies before you can snap your fingers, and that's one way you can tell them apart from your average movie fan. If you're not sure, just go up and ask. Try a pop quiz and see if you get rapid-fire answers like the ones I provide. Who are your three favorite directors? (Hitchcock, Kubrick, Kurosawa) What's your favorite live-action Disney movie? (The Rocketeer, no question) Favorite movie score? (The Warriors, Barry de Vorzon) What's the greatest Western of all time? (The Searchers) Be forewarned film buffs will sometimes provide answers that are not only to the point but obsessive; disagree at your own peril. For example: Thoughts on Darren Aronofsky? (Harvard film school hack, FUCK HIM.) The best movie Dracula? (Christopher Lee, and if you say otherwise I will punch you DIRECTLY IN THE FACE.)
